Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly (Micah 6:8)

Biblical Justice Ministry

Our heart for justice

We believe that as we follow Jesus and the gospel sinks deeper into our hearts, so we will grow our passion to see justice come. The lifestyle of a faithful follower of Jesus will increasingly demonstrate a heart for those who are vulnerable and victims of injustice. Justice is not something that is to be outsourced to professionals. It is not something that is only for those who are ‘wired that way’. The pursuit of biblical justice is something that EVERY Christ-follower is to engage in. We are here to serve you and help you in your journey.

There are two ways we as a church extend justice in our city – collectively and individually.

Collectively,

we mainly do this through our partnerships. The Bosch Justice Ministry has three primary partnerships - Common Good, Mokone Primary School and Bridges Education camps. Our aim is to strengthen these relationships and partner with them to love, serve and bless our city.

Individually,

we disciple our members to be living this pursuit of justice out in their everyday lives to love, serve and bless our city and the people around us. If you’d like to dig deeper into God’s heart for biblical justice sign up for our Justice Journey course below, or download this 15 day devotional on a Biblical response to justice.

The Bosch Biblical Justice Ministry has three primary partnerships - Common Good, Mokone Primary School and Bridges Education camps. Our aim is to strengthen these relationships and partner with them to love, serve and bless our city.

  • Common Good was founded in 2005 by Common Ground Church, and is an independent and registered non-profit organisation. Their vision is for a city where individuals and communities impacted by poverty and injustice are flourishing physically, spiritually, economically and socially.

Common Good’s triple-E strategy includes initiatives in Early Life (Sikunye), Education, and Employment. They believe that investing in these three areas is the greatest opportunity for positive change in our society.

  • Mokone is an under-resourced, non-fee-paying Primary School in Langa that Bosch has been involved with for a number of years as one of our justice ministry partnerships. Situated geographically close to Rondebosch, we see it as a wonderful opportunity to be involved. The school serves a large number of families living in challenging environments and our goals include building bridges between our communities and bringing the light and hope of Christ to the learners and staff. We also hope to help the learners achieve well academically so that they can look forward to a better future.

See below for our current serving opportunities at Mokone.

  • Bridges is a Retreat Centre and campsite located in the Franschhoek Valley. Bridges provides enriching educational camp experiences for children from under-resourced communities, to develop values and life skills that will positively impact the trajectory of their lives.

The Bridges Educational Programme facilitates memorable life experiences, which we believe have a lasting positive impact on the developing minds and hearts of the young people who attend, which will ultimately contribute to shaping a better future for our country, for generations to come.

Through sponsorship, Bridges offer fully-funded Grade 5, 6 and 7 camps to a growing network of primary schools, including Bonteheuwel, Fisantekraal, Gugulethu, Mitchells Plain, Elsies Rivier, Simondium and Wemmershoek. Learners experience a 3-day 2-night, action-packed programme, for 3 years in a row.

  • Our other partners include U-turn, The RESPOND Coalition and Rise Against Hunger.

U-turn was founded in 1997 and they are on a mission to equip people with skills to overcome homelessness because they believe God made every person intrinsically valuable and no one should have to sleep on the street. Click here to visit their website

The RESPOND Coalition was formed in 2012 to increase the effectiveness of the collaborative response of churches in the City of Cape Town and surrounds to large-scale disaster incidents. The coalition comprises a number of churches and Christian non-profit organisations with a commitment to responding to disaster incidents collaboratively. Click here to visit their website

Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies. Click here to visit their website

  • We sell Mi-change vouchers from the involvement desk, after all three meetings, every Sunday.

Mi-change vouchers can make a change and are a ticket to a pathway out of homelessness. These vouchers offer access to food, clothing, a shower or a bed in a safe space at any of the Mi-change partnership organisations (including U-Turn).

Mi-change vouchers can be redeemed at a U-turn or MES Homeless Support Centre. You can purchase Mi-change vouchers and give them to anyone in need living on the streets and they can redeem the voucher at the closest service centre. The cost is R50 for a pack of 4 vouchers.

Have items to donate?

u-Turn is a Christ based, registered NPC that exists to “create an effective life change pathway accessible to every person experiencing homelessness.”

They run a patient rehabilitation and skills development programme that equips participants to graduate into independent, open-labour market employment.

Donations of any kind (that can still be given to someone with dignity) are welcome. Click the donate box below to donate to u-Turn.

Justice Journey

This 4-week, in-person course is designed to challenge, inspire and equip you to better engage with the issues of injustice that surround us, both individually and as a congregation. Knowing God’s heart for justice and learning about how others are responding to the challenges in our city, will prepare you to live out compassion and justice.

Each evening is designed as a workshop that will include discussions, listening to stories and engaging with the preparatory readings and reflection work done at home. You can attend as an individual but this is also a great journey for a life group to go on together.

For 2024 Justice Journey will run on Wednesday evenings from the 28th of August to the 18th of September.
